Current Residents for 2008/2009
Margaret Jorgenson, Pharm.D. (PGY2) (mjorge@med.umich.edu)
Margaret Jorgenson (Mei) was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, attended undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, then transferred to the University of Michigan-College of Pharmacy to acquire her Pharm.D. degree. She completed her Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is currently the University of Michigan's Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Resident. Her current practice interest is Transplantation Infectious Diseases, although all patient populations interest her. She is actively involved with the University of Michigan-College of Pharmacy serving as a preceptor and an adjunct faculty member. Her research interests include management of immunosuppressed populations. Her general interests include snowboarding and attending concerts, per seasonal constraints. Upon completion of this PGY2 residency, Mei plans to obtain a fellowship position to further advance her study of infectious diseases, or secure a position at an academic medical center that integrates clinical practice and academic responsibilities.
Carrie Nemerovski, Pharm.D. (PGY2-Cardiology) (carriea@med.umich.edu)
Dr. Nemerovski, originally from Ann Arbor, MI received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology in May 2003 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in June 2007. She completed her Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Michigan Health System and is currently a Postgraduate Year One (PGY2) Cardiology Specialty Resident at the University of Michigan Health System. Dr. Nemerovski is actively involved with the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy serving as a new practitioner mentor for the APhA-ASP chapter, precepting fourth-year pharmacy students on clinical rotations, and serving as a classroom facilitator and lecturer for third-year pharmacy students. This year Dr. Nemerovski's research endeavors center around the role of vitamin D in cardiovascular disease. Upon completion of this PGY2 residency, Dr. Nemerovski plans to pursue a clinical pharmacist position at an academic medical center affiliated with a college of pharmacy.
Sacha Pollard, Pharm.D. (PGY2) (sachap@med.umich.edu)
Dr. Pollard, originally from Las Vegas, NV received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in May 2003 from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern Nevada in June 2007. She completed her Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals and HealthCenters and is currently a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Critical Care Pharmacy Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Her current practice interests include medical and surgical intensive care. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Pollard is the Chair of the ASHP New Practitioners Science and Research Forum. She is also actively involved with the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, serving as a preceptor for fourth-year pharmacy students on clinical rotations as well as a classroom facilitator and lecturer for third-year pharmacy students. This year Dr. Pollard's research endeavors center around heparin induced thrombocytopenia and direct thrombin inhibitors. Upon completion of this PGY2 residency, Dr. Pollard plans to secure a position at an academic medical center that integrates clinical practice and academic responsibilities.
Kathryn Schultz, Pharm.D. (PGY2) (katmower@med.umich.edu)
Dr. Schultz, originally from the Chicagoland area, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in June 2001 from Winona State University and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University, Chicago College of Pharmacy in September 2006. She completed her Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at Rush University Medical Center and is currently a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Her current practice interests include bone marrow transplant and hematological malignancies. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Schultz is on the Legislative Affairs committee for the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists (ICHP) and serves on the Alumni Council for Chicago College of Pharmacy. She is also actively involved with the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, serving as a preceptor for fourth-year pharmacy students on clinical rotations as well as a classroom facilitator for third-year pharmacy students. This year Dr. Schultz's research interests focus on pharmacologic therapies used in allogeneic transplant patients and whether they alter the risk of developing engraftment syndrome. Upon completion of this PGY2 residency, Dr. Schultz plans to secure a position at an academic medical center that integrates clinical practice, academic responsibilities and opportunities for translational research.
Katie Skillman, PharmD (PGY-2) (kskillma@med.umich.edu)
Katie Skillman is a pediatric specialty resident at the University of Michigan Hospital and Health Centers. She is originally from Franklin, IN and earned her PharmD from Purdue University in 2006. She completed her pharmacy practice residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Her interests within the area of pediatrics are to be determined and she hopes to gain a wide range of experiences during this specialty year. In the future, she hopes to practice as a clinical specialist in a pediatric teaching hospital that is affiliated with a college of pharmacy. In her free time Katie enjoys traveling, being an amateur photographer, cheering on the Red Sox, and hanging out with friends and family.
Stephanie Baringhaus, Pharm.D. (PGY1) (sbaringh@med.umich.edu )
Dr. Baringhaus received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in April, 2008. A lifelong resident of Michigan, she is excited to be completing her pharmacy practice residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Her current practice interests include cardiology and critical care. Additionally, Dr. Baringhaus has a strong interest in clinical research. This year, her research endeavors center around measurement of nitric oxide as a marker of endothelial dysfunction in heart failure patients. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Baringhaus is involved with the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, serving as a preceptor for fourth year pharmacy students on clinical rotations as well as a classroom facilitator and lecturer for third year pharmacy students. Upon completion of her PGY1 residency, Dr. Baringhaus plans to pursue a specialized residency in cardiology or critical care. Ultimately, she hopes to secure a position at medical center that integrates clinical practice and research.
Maria Rose Guido, PharmD (PGY1) (mguido@med.umich.edu )
Dr. Guido is originally from Dearborn, MI. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences from Western Michigan University in 2002, and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in 2008. She is currently a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Her current practice interests include adult medicine, cardiology, and ambulatory care, and her current research focuses on use of atorvastatin in patients after renal transplant. Dr. Guido is also actively involved with the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy as Adjunct Clinical Faculty. Upon completion of this PGY1 residency, Dr. Guido plans to pursue a second-year specialized residency. She would eventually like to secure a position at a large medical institution that incorporates both academic and clinical responsibilities.
Andrea Nigg, Pharm.D. (PGY1) (andreajn@med.umich.edu)
Andrea Nigg, originally from Southern Illinois, attended the University of Illinois from 2001-2004 for her pre-pharmacy coursework. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in May 2008. Andrea is currently a Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health System. Currently, her practice interests include pediatrics and critical care. Her research endeavors involve analyzing the impact of pharmacist intervention on antimicrobial dosing for surgical site infection prophylaxis. Next year, she plans to complete a specialty residency to further prepare herself for a clinical specialty position at a large academic medical institution. During Andrea's free time she enjoys running, swimming, biking, and spending time with her friends, family and pets.
Natasha Pettit, Pharm.D. (PGY1) (natpetti@med.umich.edu)
Natasha Pettit, Pharm.D. graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2004 and earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from the University of the Pacific in 2008. She is currently a PGY1 general pharmacy practice resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Her clinical and research interests are in Infectious Diseases and HIV management. Natasha has focused her residency research project on the use of high dose Hepatitis B vaccine in HIV patients. After completing her PGY1 residency Natasha plans to pursue a specialty residency in Infectious Diseases. She intends to utilize her residency training to obtain a position as a clinical pharmacy specialist at a university affiliated hospital and to eventually pursue a position as a professor of pharmacy practice.
Anna Sutherland, Pharm.D. (PGY1) (asutherl@med.umich.edu)
Dr. Sutherland received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in May 2004 from the University of Michigan and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree also from the University of Michigan in May 2008. She is currently a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Her current practice interests include oncology, infectious diseases, and ambulatory care. Dr. Sutherland maintains active involvement with the University of Michigan, College of Pharmacy by serving as an adjunct clinical faculty member. Her teaching responsibilities include precepting fourth-year pharmacy students on clinical rotations as well as serving as a classroom facilitator and lecturer for third-year pharmacy students. This year Dr. Sutherland's research commitment involves the use of voriconazole and the risk factors for potential side effects and the appropriateness of therapeutic drug monitoring. Upon completion of this PGY1 residency, Dr. Sutherland plans to pursue a specialized residency in hematology/oncology. Ultimately, she hopes to take a position at an academic medical center associated with a college of pharmacy where she can provide both clinical services as well as serve as a clinical faculty member.
