Current Residents for 2007
David Hutchinson, Pharm.D. (davidhut@umich.edu)
David Hutchinson is a second year specialty resident in pediatrics at the University of Michigan Hospital and Health Centers. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY and earned his Pharm.D. from the University at Buffalo in 2006. He completed his Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, OH. His pharmacy interests include pediatric congenital heart disease management, endocrine dysfunction and cystic fibrosis. He hopes to practice as a clinical specialist in a pediatric intensive care unit at a large institution affiliated with a college of pharmacy. In his free time, David enjoys golf, basketball, hunting and watching his favorite sports teams, the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.
Jim Miller, Pharm.D. (millerjt@umich.edu)
Jim Miller is the critical care specialty resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. A lifelong Michigan resident, he earned his PharmD in 2006 from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and stayed at UM to complete his PGY-1 residency. During his student years at UM, he was a 4-year member of the Michigan Marching Band. His practice interests include critical care and nutrition support. Outside of work, he enjoys jogging, playing golf, snowboarding, and lounging on a pontoon boat in northern Michigan in the summertime.
Carrie Nemerovski, Pharm.D. (carriea@umich.edu)
Carrie Nemerovski is a pharmacy practice resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. She grew up in Ann Arbor, MI but left the state to earn her BS in Microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne. She returned home to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan where she earned her PharmD in 2007. Her practice interests include hematology/oncology and infectious disease and she would like to practice in a setting affiliated with a college of pharmacy. In her free time, she likes to jog, play recreational sports, and hang out with friends and family.
Jason Pogue, Pharm.D. (jasonpog@umich.edu)
Jason is the infectious diseases specialty resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals. He is from the picturesque town of Irwin, PA. Jason received a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Gannon University prior to obtaining his PharmD from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006. He then traveled all the way across the street to complete his pharmacy practice residency at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. His career aspirations are to be an infectious diseases clinical specialist at an academic medical center. Through this he can focus on his two main passions: clinical service to patients and teaching pharmacy students. Outside of the world of pharmacy, Jason is completely devoted to Pittsburgh sports teams, namely the Penguins and Steelers. He is also an avid fan of Chelsea FC of the English Premier League. He claims that his disdain for Penn State and Ohio State will make it very easy for him to jump on the Blue bandwagon.
Sacha Pollard, Pharm.D. (sachap@umich.edu)
Sacha Pollard is a pharmacy practice resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 2003 from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and her Pharm.D. degree in 2007 from the University of Southern Nevada. Sacha's current pharmacy interests include critical care, infectious diseases, pediatrics, and pharmacy practice management. Upon completing a specialty residency, Sacha would like to practice as a clinical pharmacist in an academic institution. Sacha's long term career goals include pursuing post graduate education in public health administration and securing a management position in a medical center. When Sacha is not working, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Kristen Reaume, Pharm.D. (kreaume@umich.edu)
Kristen Reaume is the Cardiology Specialty Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. She was born and raised in Cottam, Ontario, obtained her PharmD from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at UofM. She hopes to practice as a clinical specialist and adjunct faculty member at a large institution affiliated with a college of pharmacy. Her hobbies outside of the hospital include just about anything outdoors, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Steve Stout, Pharm.D. (smstout@umich.edu)
Stephen Stout is a Pharmacy Practice Resident at the Univeristy of Michigan. He was born and raised in DeWitt, MI (near Lansing). Steve received his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in chemical physics in 2003 and his Pharm.D. from the University of Michgan in 2007. Steve's clinical interests include critical care, infectious diseases, and oncology. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, running, and mountain biking.
Kelan Thomas, Pharm.D. (kelan@umich.edu)
Kelan Thomas is a Pharmacy Practice Resident at the Univeristy of Michigan Health System. He grew up in Hershey, PA (Chocolatetown, USA). In 2002, he received his Bachelor's of Science from Duke University in Chemistry with a concentration in Pharmacology. In 2007, he earned his PharmD from UC-San Francisco in the Pharmaceutical Sciences pathway. His area of interest is psychiatric pharmacogenetics and he plans to pursue a Clinical Scientist PhD after residency. In his free time, he enjoys independent music, foreign cinema, college basketball, contemporary art museums and iced confectionery. He's glad to be living in the Midwest, just a few blocks from Ghostly International headquarters and less than an hour drive from Detroit techno.
Shawna VanDeKoppel, Pharm.D. (svandeko@umich.edu)
Shawna VanDeKoppel is a Hematology/Oncology Specialty Resident at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Born and raised on the west of the state of Michigan, she transferred to the east side to complete her bachelor of science degree at the University of Michigan. She also earned her PharmD degree from the University of Michigan. Her educational interests include hematology/oncology, infectious disease, nutrition, and geriatrics. She hopes to be a clinical specialist and adjunct faculty at a larger hospital affiliated with a College of Pharmacy. She also enjoys advocating for the profession through involvement in various pharmacy organizations. Her hobbies include spending lots of time with family and friends, rollerblading, going to the beach, and reading.
